Thanksgiving and Thankfulness: A Special Time of Year!
Thanksgiving and Thankfulness: A Special Time of Year!
November 2, 2024
Hi, friends!
Thanksgiving is such a wonderful holiday! It’s a time for big, yummy meals, cozy family moments, and—most importantly—feeling thankful for all the good things in our lives. Let’s learn more about what makes Thanksgiving special and how we can practice being thankful every day!
What is Thanksgiving?
Thanksgiving is a day when families and friends come together to enjoy a delicious feast and share what they’re thankful for. It’s celebrated every year on the fourth Thursday in November.
It’s not just about the food (though turkey, mashed potatoes, and pie are so yummy! It’s about showing gratitude and being kind to others.
What Does Being Thankful Mean?
Being thankful means noticing and appreciating the good things in your life, big or small. Here are some examples:
- Feeling happy about spending time with your family.
- Enjoying a warm hug from someone you love.
- Loving a good meal, your favorite toy, or even a sunny day!
When we stop and think about what makes us happy, it helps us feel even more joyful and positive.
Ways Kids Can Show Thankfulness
Want to show how thankful you are? Here are some fun and easy ways:
- Say Thank You: It sounds simple, but saying “thank you” can make someone feel appreciated.
- Write a Thankful List: Grab some paper and write or draw 5 things you’re grateful for.
- Help Out: Offer to set the table, clean your room, or help a sibling. Helping makes everyone smile.
- Share Kind Words: Tell someone you care about why you’re thankful for them.
Fun Thanksgiving Activities!
Looking for something fun to do this Thanksgiving? Check out these ideas:
- Craft Time: Make a colorful turkey using paper, markers, and glue. Or create a “thankful tree” with paper leaves that say what you’re grateful for.
- Thankful Jar: Write down what you’re thankful for on little notes and put them in a jar. Share them at the dinner table.
- Play Gratitude Games: Take turns saying something you’re thankful for that starts with each letter of the alphabet!
Take a Thankfulness Challenge!
Here’s a challenge: Try to say or show something you’re thankful for every day this week. It could be as simple as saying “thank you” to your teacher or telling your pet you’re thankful for their snuggles.
Thanksgiving is all about family, friends, and gratitude. This year, let’s focus on all the good things in our lives and find ways to share kindness with others.
What are YOU thankful for this year? Share your ideas with a family member or friend!
Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!
